ISO/TC .14/ C 7 Graphical \\ elding Symbols
:day 1957-0ctober 1957 : l\Ir. A. GA BERT. ::viention should also be made of I 0 /TC II ( nification of Boiler Codes) and, in particular, of its Sub-Committee 3 (\\ elded Construction), meeting of which 1\Ir. W.P. KERKHOF has attended as an observer of the II\~. With regard to the actual work of Commission VII, its working documents are principally made up each year of reports and information on the work of the technical Commissions of the II\ of interest from the point of vie\Y of standardi– sation and, in addition, of reports of I 0 meetings dealing with matters 1 illtin the terms of reference of the IIW. Commission \ "II has, since 1956, been in a position to recommend to the Govern ing Council the publication, by the member societies of the II\V, of docu– ments containing particulars of progress made in international standardisation work undertaken by I SO/TC 44 ; this a rrangement is the result of proposals to that effect made by the II\\ , though naturally no document is iss ued except with the agreement of the General Sec reta riat of ISOJTC 44. The nature of the Commission's b usiness makes it inevitable that a la rge proportion of its work is carried out in collaboration with the other technical Commissions of the IH\ and, in consequence, is described in the present volume in the reports of the relevant Commissions . Consequently, only a brief summary will be given here. In the first place, it should be stressed that the Commission has not touched upon the problems of dimensional standardisation, the p reparatory studies for which have not a genuinely technical character. In this field , the part played by the Commission has been confined to informing the Commissions concerned of the arrangements made or proposed by I 0 . This applies also to standardisa– tion work on graphical welding symbols. On the other hand, the Commission has systematically concerned itself " ·ith the maintenance of the necessary liaison between ISO and the II\V as regards t erminology (choice of t erms and definitions) either in conne.:-,.-ion with general terminological problems or " ·ith the preparation of definitions of values in tech– n ical specifications. In this connexion, the Commission has also dealt \vith problems raised by the IEC (International Electro-Technical Commission). To return to ISO/TC -J.-J., six draft recommendations, based on working document emanating from the II\\ , have so far reached the final stage in the procedure for international st andardisation. The last enquiry carried out with regard t o them has been closed or is on the point of being closed. The docu– ments conce rned a re the following : a) Code of international symbols for designating covered electrodes for arc welding of m ild steels aud low alloy high tensile steels. b ) Appendix I of this document. 1 esti n a ·111,ethods for determinin g t!t e m echanical character·istics of the weld metal deposited by electrodes lt aving a dianieter of 3. 15 mm or greater. c) Code of -international symbols for filler rods for gas welding of mild or low1alloy !tigh tensile steels. cl) Appendi x I of this document. M ethod of test for det ernii·n iug the m echall'ical properties of weld ·metal deposited by filler rods for gas weldin a mild a nd low alloy high tensile steels. 3 . WORK ACCOMPLISHED.
e) Appendix II of the same document. Infomintion concernin g heat treatment.
