The Commission's programme of work also contains the following points : materials for the jointing of cylinder valves and pressure reducing valves; the production of phosgene during the argon arc welding of alloys which have been de-greased by trichlorethylene and similar compounds; the maxium permissible concentrations of phosgene and ozone; the comparison between shields and hel– mets from the point of view of protection against fumes, etc. This brief account of the most important work carried out by Commission VIII and of its results shows how active its members have been; all have contri– buted in an atmosphere of friendly collaboration to studies on which more effica– cious and precise regulations for health and safety may be based and have en– sured that such regulations are supported by the results of scientific and techni– cal research, the usefulness of which, since health is our most precious possession, will be apparent to all.
