1 . CONSTITUTION AND TERMS OF REFERENCE. Commission I (Gas welding and allied processes) was est ablished on 16 May, 1949, at the first annual meeting of the IIW at Delft. On that occasion delegates from nine different countries were present , among whom may be mentioned : Mr. G. AKCION (Belgium), Mr. K. TOKKES PEDERSEN (Denmark), Mr. H . RE– NAUDIE (France), Mr. W . F. HAPPE (Netherlands), Mr. ROLF HANSEN (Norway), Mr. lVI. DE Mrno (Spain), Mr. J. AVERSTEN (Sweden), Dr. C. G. KEEL (Switzer– land) and Mr. C. S. MILNE (United Kingdom) . The Commission has considerably developed since then ; in 1957 it consisted of fort y-eight members and experts from twenty-four countries, thus proving that the problems dealt with have been of increasing interest to the different member countries of the II\V. At the beginning, the Commission devoted attention to defining the scope of its activities, which is as follows : A. General. 1) Study of flames. 2) Heat transfer from flames to metals. 3) Generators (equipment, safety, classification, etc.).
