Up to 1957, its Chairman was Mr. B. KJELLBERG (Sweden) who was then succeeded by Mr. E. KAUHAUSEN (Germany). z. A Sub-Commission for « testing and measurement » was formed at Delft to lay down the conditions for the preparation of test-pieces for determining the mechanical properties which have to be stated in the specification of covered electrodes for arc \velding. At the Copenhagen meeting in 1953, a working group, which was an offshoot of this Sub-Commission, was set up to carry out investi– gations on « the effect of hydrogen in weld metal ». At the Zurich assembly in 1955, this working group became a Sub-Commission. Both these Sub-Commis– sions are still in existence and have the following titles : Sub-Commission C (1) : « Testing and Measurement of Weld Metal ». - Chairman : W. GERRITSEN (Netherlands). Sub-Commission A (z) : « Effect of Hydrogen in \~ eld Metal ». - Chairman : B. KJEI,LBERG (Sweden). international specifications on the qualification of welders » was also formed at Delft, Dr. U. GUERRERA (Italy) being its Chairman; this Sub-Commission was, however, dissolved in Paris in 1950 since its terms of reference were covered by those of Commission X IV (Welding Instruction) which was then being established . 4. The fourth Sub-Commission, set up at Delft, dealt with the study of c< welding of non-ferrous metals in inert atmospheres ». At the plenary meeting of Coni.mission II in Paris in March 1951, it was agreed that the terms of reference of this Sub-Commission should be amended to cover « inert gas arc \7> 1 elding with consumable or non-consumable electrodes » and, at Goteborg in 1952, this field was extended to cover « arc welding of light alloys with covered electrodes >>. It was, however, pointed out that certain matters to be discussed by this Sub-Commission might be treated from an eco– nomic point of view or might be the subject of commercial propaganda and, at the Copenhagen meeting in 1953, this Sub-Commission was split into two working groups; the follmving year, however, all matters relating to arc \velding in pro– tective atmospheres were transferred to the newly-created Commission :S:II (Special Arc \~ elding Processes). The working group on << arc welding of non-ferrous metals with covered electrodes » vvas disbanded in 1956, its Chairman having been over the three years Mr. N. CHRISTENSEN (Norway) . 5. A Sub-Commission on « arc welding in shipbuilding » had been set up at Delft in 1949, but since the study of this question lay within the province of organisations specialising in shipbuilding, this Sub-Commission was disbanded in Paris in 1950, Prof. H. E . JAEGER (Netherlands) having been its Chairman during its short existence. 6. A sixth Sub-Commission was also set up at Delft for « testing and measure– ment of arc welding apparatus and welding current ». Its purpose was to com– pare the different specifications relating to arc welding equipment and to the measurement of currents and voltages in arc welding. This Sub-Commission still exists as uh-Commission B « Testing and : vreasurement of Welding Equip– ment » (3) under the Chairmanship of ~fr. A. G.\UBERT (France) . 3. A Sub-Commission for the study of <<
