7. At the beginning, it had been planned to collect, within Commission II, information about the welding of boilers and pressure vessels, Mr. KERKHOF (Netherlands) being made responsible for preparing proposals for international specifications on this subject. In 1950, a working group was formed within Commission II ; but, on the establishment of Commission XV in 195 l, the field of activity of this working group was transferred to that Commission (Fundamentals of Design and Fabrication for \iVelding). Since then, the work has been carried out by an autonomous Commission, Commission XI (Pressure Vessels, Boilers and Pipelines). 8. At the Oxford meeting in 1951, Commission II set up a Sub-Commission <( deep penetration welding ll, the first Chairman of which was Mr. D. LAGRANGE (Belgium); in 1956 l\fr. E. KAUHAUSEN (Germany), was provisionally appointed to succeed him. 9. At the annual meeting at Goteborg in 1952, a working group was set up for« automatic arc welding n under the Chairmanship of Mr. KOMERS (Germany); but the establishment of Commission XII (Special Arc Welding Processes) led to the disbanding of this group. ro. As a result of the discussions which took place on the Governing Council of the IIVV on the investigation of Proditctivity by Welding, Commission II set up at Essen a working group on

In 1949, Commission II was forn1ed by delegates from 6 countries. In 1952, the number of countries represented on it at Goteborg was 15 ; in 1957, at Essen, this number reached 24. The number of delegates, experts and observers who attended the different annual meetings is as follows : -
