Another Record Breaking Year in Athletics More Excitement to Come in 2020 Justin Hester, Athletics Chair
I want to say a huge thank you to all of the AAC members and families who supported the Athletics Department this year! It’s hard to believe, but 2019 brought on even more record numbers as members have flocked to the Fitness Center, Pool, and Retreat Spa.
This year Aquatics welcomed a record number of members and guests! Swim and Dive numbers continued to be strong, and member satisfaction still remains very high after switching leagues in 2018. When you see John Broughton and Ashlea Porri, please tell them congratulations on the best Aquatics season ever, it could not have happened without the hard work from them and the rest of the Aquatics Team! In the Retreat Spa, Debbie and her talented team continue to excel. This year we will see record numbers in Massages, the Salon, as well as the retail boutique. The New Year brings some exciting changes with brand new, state- of-the-art pedicure chairs, as well as new services such as Coolsculpting and IV therapy. In addition, as we look to renovate areas of the Fitness Center in the future, we are examining ways to increase our spa footprint to include treatment areas connected to the men’s locker room, and to create additional spaces to offer some of the hottest trends in the spa industry. Finally, Fitness continues to be the lifeblood of the Club, again eclipsing 100,000 visits for 2019. In our Health Bar we have seen record sales— would you believe there were over 8,000 smoothies made this year!? Our programs are ever-expanding--we have seen tremendous growth in our Pilates program, offering over 25 weekly group sessions, and our group exercise schedule this summer offered the most robust and diverse class offerings to date. Also, in 2019 we added physical therapy services by Michelle Miller, who has provided a much needed asset to fully complete a well-rounded wellness experience for our members. 2020 is a big year for fitness as we look to continue offering the finest experience in service and facilities. First, this summer we will be replacing all of the cardio equipment. Our goal is to work with the Athletics Committee and the equipment vendors to provide the best cardio experience available, combining the newest technology with the best comfort and appearance for the membership.
In January, we will be providing demos from all of our equipment vendors in two week intervals, so please come try the equipment and provide your feedback! Second, the Athletics Committee is currently examining a renovation to our locker rooms and wet areas in the near future. Please be on the lookout for a brief survey that will be sent to the membership regarding this renovation, your input is greatly valued! On behalf of the Athletics Committee, we thank you again for making the Athletics Department a great success in 2019, and we look forward to making 2020 another record breaker! Page 2
