SteveBrown- Strength & Conditioning Coach Steve Brown begins his fi rst year as USD Strength and Conditioning Coach. He comes to San Diego from Temple University where he was the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach since 1991. A 1983 graduate of Brown University (Biology), Steve earned his Masters in Human Kinetics in 1991 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in .----------- -------, Physical Education (focus of studies in Exercise Physiology). The USD strength and conditioning program has been designed lo develop functional strength, speed, power and endur-

ance. The development of these physical attributes is useless to the athletes unless it can be carried onto the playing field. Therefore, adhering to a properly designed program of strength training, conditioning and nutrition can enable our men and women to become the best possible athletes they can be, while simultaneously reducing the inci- dence of injury. USD student-athletes will receive intensive instruction on proper weight training technique; speed, power and agility development; and sport- specific conditioning. Their strength and condi- tioning programs will be specific to the nature of their sport or position. Each athlete will be indi- vidually monitored throughout their program to ensure the greatest chance of athletic progress.

"I look forward to training allUSD student-athletes andhopeto establish a new sense of pride and commitmentto thestrength andc1111- ditio11i11g program. The area of strength and c1111ditio11i11g has be- come i11creasi11gly more scientific i11 recent years. I plan to utilize the latest research i11 this field to fully cultivate the athleticpotentialofour athletes." Steve Brown
