TOREROS LOOKING FOR NINTH STRAIGHT WINNING CAMPAIGN WEEK #11: The USO Toreros close out their 1995 season this Saturday, November 11th, against Wagner College in a nonconference game. It is USD's Homecoming game and kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm. San Diego claimed third place in the Pioneer Football League this past weekend with their 37-16victory over Butler. Wagner came from behind to beatMonmouth, 21-20, and come to town with a record of 7-1. THE COACHES: USD's Brian Fogarty (CS Los Angeles, 1975) is in his 13th season with the Toreros. In search of his ninth straight winning campaign, Fogarty currently has acareer mark of 71-52-3. Last season he finished 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the PFL standings. Wagner coach Walt Hameline (Brockport State, 1975) isin his 15th season as the director of athletics/head football coach. Hameline currently boasts an overall record of 117-38-2. SERIES RECORD: San Diego leads the series 2-0. The Toreroswon last year's game in Staten Island, New York, 45-35. DOUGHERTY SELECTED PFL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OFTHEWEEK: Junior nickel back Jeb Dougherty (Yucca Valley, CA) was selected this week's Pioneer Footbal I League Defensive Player of theWeek after he totaled 13 tackles (5 solo) in the team's 37-16 victory over Butler University. Healso broke up apass. This isJeb's second PFL Player of the Week honor, the first coming Sept. 2nd. For the season USO has had a total of ten players get named PFL Player of the week. SAN DIEGOSCORES SEASON-HIGH 37 POINTS INWIN OVER BUTLER: The USD Toreros scored a season-high 37 points (31 in the second half) this past weekend in their victory over Butler. The previous two weeks USD managed to score a total of three points in losses to Redlands (16-3) and Drake (9-0). With the win the Torerosfinished third in the final PFL standings behind Drake (5-0) and Dayton (4-1 ). Offensively the Toreros were paced by sopho- more FB Jared Keo (112 yards rushing, 1 TD), QB John Khamis (rushed for one TD and completed a 20-yard TD strike to WR Brian Stevens) and kicker Matt Young (4-of-5 on PAT kicks, as well as a season-best 48-yard field goal). Besides Dougherty, the defense was paced by senior FS Doug Popovich (11 tackles), sophomore DB Andrew Firestone (1 0tackles, 1 interception) and senior DB Shaun Grove (3 tackles, 67-yard TD return after interception). Junior punter Mike Buhler punted just four times for a 43.5 average (two went for 50+ yards) - he still leads the PFL in punting with his 39.03 yards per punt average. Butler's Arnold Mickens rushed for 161 yards and 2 TDsto pace the Bulldogs. TORERO TIDBITS: A w in this Saturday would give the Toreros their third straight 6-4 record, as well as their ninth straight w in- ning campaign ... with last week's w in over Butler, head coach

Brian Fogarty (13th year) assured himself of his 11th year of go- ing .500 or better in the win column ... Shaun Grove's 67-yard interception return for a touchdown was his second TD return this season - he returned an interception against Azusa Pacific on October 7th 32 yards for a score in the Toreros 21-0 win ... in team statistics among PFL teams, USO is first in net punting (35.3), kickoff returns (24.8, 4th in NCAA 1-M) and team turnover mar- gin (1.33, 10th in NCAAI-Ml ... Torero leaders among PFL indi- vidual statistics include FB Jared Keo (3rd in rushing, 62.1 yards a game), QB John Khamis (2nd in passing efficiency, 118.5), RB/ WR Evan Hlavacek (4th in all-purpose yards, 93.67 per game), DB Shaun Grove (T-2nd in interceptions; 3), DB Sal Navarra (T- 2nd in interceptions, 3), PMike Buhler (1st in punting at 39.03), Jeb Dougherty (1st in kickoff returns, 21 .47), and K Matt Young (3rd in field goals made per game, .56) ... USD players with PFL single-game highs include Matt Young (48-yard field goal vs. Butler), Mike Buhler (63-yard punt twice vs. Evansville), Evan Hlavacek (95-yard kickoff return vs. Cal Lutheran) and Shaun Grove (67-yard interception return). TEN USD SENIORS PLAYING LAST GAME: Ten USD gridders will be playing in their last collegiate games - RB/WR Tim Antongiovanni (Bakersfield, CA), LB Curtis DeMers (Lake Elsinore, CA), DL Ron Etscheit (Kolonia Pohnpei, HI), DB Shaun Grove (San Diego, CA), DB Billy Kobayashi (Honolulu, HI), DL Eddie Messina (La Mesa, CA), FS Doug Popovich (Tucson, AZ), DL Steve Wilson (La Mesa, CA), TE Mike Tanghe (Edina, MN) and PK Matt Young (Fullerton, CA). Over the past four seasons this group has an overall record of 24-14-1. WAGNER UPDATE: Wagner improved to 7-1 with last week's 21-20 come-from-behind victory over Monmouth ... Monmouth held a 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter with Wagner scor- ing a touchdown each in the third and fourth quarters ... the Seahawks scored the winning touchdown with :50 seconds to go when junior QB Jason Miletic found senior TE Jim Bogacki open for a 2-yard TD strike ... Carl Franke's PAT kick gave them the one-point victory ... senior RB Kilo Lockwood rushed 173 yards on 24 carries as the Seahawks totaled 431 yards of offense (291 rushing/140 passing) ... Wagner comes to San Diego riding a three- game winning streak ... they opened the season with four wins, lost to Robert Morris (16-18) on October 14th, and then have strung together wins over Iona (42-0), Central Connecticut State (40-35) and Monmouth ... on the season Wagner is averaging 29.5 ppg and 391.6 yards of offense (251.9 rushing/139.8 pass- ing) while their defense is limiting opponents to 20.0 ppg and 254.5 yards of offense (75.1 rushing/179.4 passing) ... individual leaders include RB Kito Lockwood (160.3 yards per game, 9 TDs), freshman RB Rick Sarille (98.5 yards rushing per game, 6 TDs), junior QB Jason Miletic (94-for-168 for 1,1 18 yards and 10 TDs), junior WR Sean Hurley (19 catches for 241 yards and 2 TDs), sophomore ILB Justin Abel (59 tackles) and sophomore OLB Ryan Linder (54 tackles).
