Wood Flooring

4. Wipe away dust with a cloth.

Beech, maple, and oak are the most common types of wood flooring material and the floor’s durability depends on the type of wood. Wood responds to changes in the environment, contracting when it’s extremely dry, expanding when it’s extremely humid. Such changes are normal. In addition to being a stylish and attractive addition to homes, wood floors look good for many years when they’re cared for and maintained properly. Care and maintenance Follow manufacturer’s instructions for care and maintenance of wood floors, including which products to use. General maintenance Keep your floor clean by dry mopping, sweeping, or vacuuming at least once a week. Remove dirt and sand from the floor quickly — the particles can scratch the floor. To minimize the amount of dirt and sand on the floor, place rugs at room entrances (especially entrances from the exterior).

5. Finish the surface with paint, wallpaper, or another wall decoration.

Carry — don’t drag — heavy objects across the wood floor.

Place pads beneath furniture legs. Felt pads that stick on work well and have the added benefit of reducing the indentations made by narrow- legged furniture.
