This course introduces the student to the legal and policy basis for international disputes in trade-
related matters. Starting with the genesis of the GATT system in the postwar period, students
will read widely in the legal texts representing the development of our contemporary global trade
regime. Students will study such important subjects as intellectual property and trade, free trade
in investments and services; as well as the "trade and environment" dilemma. They will become
familiar with recent high-profile trade disputes brought before the World Trade Organization.
