Advanced Legal Writing: Criminal Appellate Advocacy
Prof. Julie Baker,
3 credits day; 3 credits evening.
This class will build on the persuasive writing and advocacy skills introduced to students in LPS.
We will begin with a short trial memorandum, then tackle an entire state-court criminal appeal –
from reading the trial transcripts and identifying legal issues to researching those issues in
primary and secondary sources (in the books and online); and then doing a first draft and a
rewrite of an appellate brief. The class will meet twice per week for 3 credits, and the final brief
may be used to satisfy the Legal Writing Requirement.
Enrollment is limited: 16
