A spiral scroll, as on Ionic,

Corinthian, Composite capitals,

or on consoles, etc.

voussoir =

A wedge-shape masonry

unit in an arch or vault

whose converging sides

are cut as radii of one of

the centers of the arch

or vault.

water leaf =

An ornamenta-

tion of lotus

leaf or an ivy

motif, sometimes divided symmetrically by a

prominent rib, also called lesbian leaf. Late 12

th

century capital with a large leaf at each angle,

broad, smooth, curving up toward the abacus

corner and then curling inward.
