Winter 2018

Vacations® is proud to be NATJA’s

(North American Travel Journalist Association)

2017 Gold Award Winner in the

Travel Magazine category.

Welcome to the winter edition of Ensemble Vacations magazine.

When we first started working on this edition, we asked Ensemble’s travel

specialists: what’s hot in booking trends right now? What is on their radar

for 2019?

They told us that Canadians continue to explore the tried-and-true

destinations of Europe, such as Italy and France, but that there is an

ever-growing interest in destinations that are more off the beaten track,

such as the Baltic region. They report that Canadians are venturing further,

booking places like Thailand and Japan more frequently throughout various

months of the year. And, of course, Canadians continue to head south,

chasing the sun in the winter months.

We are sharing stories that reflect these booking trends in hopes to inspire

your 2019 plans. Look for articles about: sailing the Baltic Sea with Regent

Seven Seas; taking on France with your family; cruising Alaska’s wilderness;

and exploring Japan’s history through its food.

Our specialists have also noted trends in the type of experiences people are

looking for. For example, there are more wellness seekers incorporating spas

and fitness into their vacations, and there are more sports fans travelling far

and wide to take in world-class tournaments. We’ve compiled a piece that

looks at the best upcoming – and some unusual – sporting events worth

travelling to.

Luxury travel remains a constant when it comes to trends. And why not?

There are not many among us who wouldn’t love the opportunity to wake

up in an historic hotel overlooking Italy’s glamourous Lake Como, or in an

over-water bungalow in the Maldives.

Whatever type of experience suits you, we hope you find inspiration in these

pages. When you are ready, your travel specialist can help you book the

vacation that is right for you.

Happy travels,

Karen Leiva
