What is the Stakeholder Panel on Dietary Supplements (SPDS)?
AOAC’s Stakeholder Panel on Dietary Supplements (SPDS) is a panel funded by the National Institutes of
Health, Office of Dietary Supplements (NIH/ODS) to identify and prioritize 25 ingredients, develop
standard method performance requirements (SMPRs) for prioritized ingredients, evaluate and
recommend methods for Official First Action Status, and to publish all documentation of the process and
outcomes. AOAC was awarded this contract from NIH/ODS in September 2013 and the program will run
through September 2018.
In 2013, AOAC will hold an Advisory Panel Meeting
to
identify and prioritize 25 dietary supplement
ingredients for which systematically reviewed analytical methods are needed. There will be 2
Stakeholder Panel Meetings and 7 ingredient working groups to develop standard method performance
requirements (SMPRs) for the top 7 ingredients. These meetings are held at the AOAC Midyear Meeting

The inaugural meeting will be held on March 21, 2014 at the Gaithersburg Hilton in Gaithersburg, MD.
