Pilot-operated safety valve
Protection from over pressure is a key
safety aspect for operators of process
plants. Large and complex plants, for
example in the chemical or oil and
gas industries, require a broad range
of safety valves for various pressures,
temperatures and media.
Leser has expanded the operating
range of its High Efficiency product
group with a new pilot-operated safety
valve (POSV) for pressures from 102
to 3,705 psig (256 bar). This valve
was presented for the first time at
Valve World Expo Americas, and high
pressure pilot operated safety valves up
to class 1500/PN 250 can be ordered as
of October 2013.
“This makes Leser one of the few
suppliers offering a wide range of pilot-
operated and spring-loaded safety
valves and an interesting supplier for
large industrial projects,” said Steve
Usina, president of Leser USA.
Many different operational requirements
such as higher tightness, explosive
decompression, high capacities or the
protection against back pressures can
be addressed with the high pressure
pilot-operated safety valve. The valve
also meets API 526 specifications.
“With short lead-times of four weeks and
a robust design, Leser pilot-operated
safety valves are a safe choice for plant
operators,” added Mr Usina. “Leser
POSVs are used by leading companies
around the globe and provide a reliable
and economical solution for many
applications.”
Integrated tubing between the main
valve and the pilot valve reduces the
danger of freezing or damage, and a
backflow preventer is fitted as standard.
In addition to the higher permissible
pressures, Leser offers a number of
innovative product configurations for
industry-specific requirements. The new
valve for pressures up to 3,705 psig
(256 bar) covers outlet flange ratings
class 300x300 and 600x300, which go
beyond API 526 but are often required
in plants.
For high pressures as well as high
temperatures, Leser offers a version
with a stellited disc. With this method,
the sealing surfaces are especially
hardened, which offers a high functional
tightnessevenafterseveralvalveopening
cycles. Higher tightness requirements
at especially low temperatures can be
fulfilled with the new sealing plate made
of PEEK or PTFE inside the main valve.
For industrial processes with corrosive
media, Leser offers a high pressure pilot-
operated safety valve with a full nozzle
provided with the same lead-times as
the standard semi nozzle version.
Another improvement was achieved in
making seals more resistant to explosive
decompression – an important factor in
petrochemical and other applications
with high pressures.
Leser uses a material that reduces
diffusion of the medium into the soft
seal. This results in longer maintenance
intervals for the valve.
The expansion of the operating range
of Leser pilot-operated safety valves for
pressures up to 6,710 psig (426 bar) is
scheduled for release in 2014.
At that time, the Leser product range
will cover the entire pressure spectrum
as defined by API 526.
