year’s Labels Fashion show. The graduate
from London College of Fashion brings
together strong prints and aesthetics in her
collections by aptly focusing her attention
on tribalism and futurism through fashion
and sportswear and her current offering
Tribal Future’ provides the same qualities.
The menswear collection created by
Precious Ihuomah, who graduated with
a degree in fashion innovation from the
University of Creative Arts in Rochester
and has her own label O’che, was inspired
by Arcadia Frozen at the End of Time
(
an ambiguous garden symbolising and
referencing the architectural movement
of Art Nouveau). The collection delivered
a great revamp of men’s essentials such
as shirts and blazers and a frozen in time
theme. Concentrating on menswear in her
final year at university after initially starting
out as a womenswear designer, Precious
states,“I love menswear as it allows me to
step outside of myself to truly see shape
and form.”
Graduate Fashion Week designer
Schenell Stephens’ collection had a very
Victorian theme with the draping and
layering of various fabrics in
antique gold, mouse pink, deep
purple and black.After graduating
with a 1
st
Class honours from the
University of East London and
showcasing at Graduate Fashion
Week in 2010, Schenell founded
her clothing label Intern Clothing. The label
aims to push the realms of creativity by
transforming the norm through unique,
wearable and sustainable fashion. Her
collection ‘Speed Dark’, a soulful collection
that allows the wearer to embody some
autumn glamour through loose, dynamic
silhouettes and vivid shards of colour, was
inspired by the recent
Olympic activity.
Finally,
Sylvia
Fumudoh
who
graduated
from
Middlesex University
and also showcased
at Graduate Fashion
Week in 2010, took
us on a journey
to the ballet with
her
collection
Untitled’
inspired
by
contemporary
dance and ballet.
Taking its theme from
the story of Swan
Lake, the collection
shows the difference
and transition in
character of the
White Swan into
the Black Swan
through style, colour
and structure. Her
fashion brand Preby,
established shortly
after her graduation,
is
inspired
by
feminine shapes and
curves and creates
sophisticated, elegant
and
comfortable
womenswear.
