The roaring sixties came alive in the
Sports Racing Masters event. CanAm cars
pit against sports racers and early GT cars
to bring some dramatic machinery to the
track. Roger Wills raced again, this time
with driving partner Joe Twyman in his
1965
McLaren M1B against competitors
LeoVoyazides’ 1965 Ford GT40 and Georg
Kjallgren’s 1966 continuation Ford GT40.
Other competing drivers included John
Young and Gavin Henderson in their 1965
and 1966 Ford GT40s, driving partners
Chris Jolly and Steve Farthing in their 1963
Cooper Monaco T61M, and Andrew Owen
and Simon Hadfield in their 1963 Elva Mk
VII S.
The Royal Automobile Club Woodcote

and other stunning models from the pre-
1956
era made their return to the Grand
Prix circuit. Looking immaculate and well-
kept on the track, these racing cars could
have been mistaken for modern cars of
today. With 50 minutes of racing on the
clock, it was certainly a race of champions.
The Masters Historic Festival was a
weekend to remember. A history lesson
in itself, it was a privilege to be there to
witness the racing drivers and cars that
represented the many decades of racing
from the 1930s down to the 1980s. For a
fun-packed, high-powered adrenaline action
and exciting weekend, the Master Historic
Festival is worth checking out. You won’t
be disappointed.
