Purpose:
The mission of the Buckeye Association of School
Administrators is to inspire and support its members,
develop exemplary school system leaders and advocate for
public education.
Organization:
BASA is a nonprofit organization comprised of individual
members. Membership includes superintendents, assistant
superintendents, directors, building level-administrators,
department heads, university professors, graduate students,
state department personnel, and service (corporate) members.
Legal structure:
An executive committeemade up of a president, president-
elect, past president and regional directors from all of BASA’s
10 regions and appointees from OESCA, OALSS and OACTS
govern the Association. At times an appointed director also
may serve on the committee. An executive director leads the
operations of the Association. The Association staff is com-
prised of a team of professional and support staff.
History:
BASA was established as an incorporated nonprofit organi-
zation in 1969 to serve the needs of Ohio superintendents. It is
an association of individual members focused on the advance-
ment of public education. BASA also is a charter member of
the American Association of School Administrators.
Services:
BASA’s services are divided generally into the areas of
legislative, professional growth and development, commu-
nications and public relations, and member orientation. In
addition, BASA offers legal assistance, member advocacy,
counseling, and strategic planning assistance. BASA expresses
the concerns and needs of its members in the legislative arena
at the statehouse and Department of Education.
Financial:
Monies to support BASA operation and services come from
membership dues and non-dues revenue, such as confer-
ences, product sales and corporate sponsorships.
