Northumbria
Guided
by York at
Christmas
Weekend
A group of 17 members plus partners and friends of
Northumbria branch held their annual 2012
Christmas Weekend in the historical city of York.
The group was treated to a walking tour by York tour
guide and York branch Secretary Allan Brown - which
was great fun and very informative. It was then time for
a look at the Christmas Markets in the centre of York.
Later that evening the group was joined by Alan and Caroline Brown together
with Audrey and Colin Shingles, Vice Chair of York branch, for an evening
meal.
Northumbria branch Treasurer, Rosemary Chambers, ran a raffle with prizes
donated by those present - which was good fun.
The next morning, after a wonderful breakfast of kippers, it was time to leave.
We had many fond memories; not only of the city itself but also of the
smashing time our members all had together. A big thank you goes to the
York branch members and their wives for their kind assistance and especially
to Caroline Brown for making it all possible.

Awarded
the
Cruz
Blanco
Aubrey Bowles, a member
from 9 Region, has been presented with the Cruz Blanco - the
Cross of the Order - by the Chief of the National Police in
Fuengirola, Spain, Don Victor Olmo Barrios, on behalf of the
Minister for the Interior of Spain.
Aubrey and his wife decided to retire to Spain after he had served
in Bedfordshire until 1995. However, he soon felt the tug of his
professional roots when he was asked to be a volunteer helper at
the Foreigners’ Department of the National Police in Fuengirola.
Here he helped bewildered expats with their paperwork. Fifteen
years later he’s still there, every morning Monday to Friday.
It was for this dedication that he was recognised along with
several serving Spanish police officers.
Aubrey said,
“As a volunteer I was very honoured and proud to
receive the award as it is normally only awarded to serving
Spanish police officers.”
