Home & Gravesite

Bethune-Cookman University is one

of the richest resources of African-

American historical and cultural exhibits

in Florida. Bethune’s home and gravesite

are located on campus.

6. North Peninsula State

Recreation Area

This 900-acre park north of Ormond

Beach offers over two miles of sandy

beaches, natural dunes, and some of the

best surf fishing in the area. Open daily

from sunrise to sunset.

7. Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park

Also north of Ormond Beach, this park

runs from ocean to river, covers five

ecological systems and is a Great Florida

Birding Trail site. The facilities include

tennis, racquetball,

softball, fishing pier,

trail and picnic areas.

8. Ormond Memorial Art Museum

& Gardens

Inside are paintings, drawings, video,

mixed media, photography and three-

dimensional works of art. Outside are

beautiful tropical gardens complete

with gazebo, nature trails, ponds and

fountains. Open daily, dawn to dusk.

9. Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens

Set amid 12 acres of lush botanical

gardens in Port Orange stands the

remains of an English sugar mill. The

gardens were once home to the 1940s

theme park, Bongoland. The life-size

dinosaur statues that remain are still a

favorite with children. Open daily from

dawn to dusk.

10. Sun Splash Park in Daytona Beach

This four-acre oceanfront park has

walkways, a shaded playground, picnic

areas, restrooms, outdoor showers, beach

access ramps and more than 160 free off-

beach parking spaces. Open sunrise to

sunset.
