Independent Machine Company has
developed a new computerised traverse
winding system for the wire industry.
The four-computerised traverse
winder Smartwinder-XL™ pos-
itions with closed loop tension
control, operates inline with an
existing process for flat wire at
speeds up to 1,000FPM.
The spools move under the fixed
input of the material to eliminate
skewing and to ensure the wire
maintains its lateral position from
the process to the spools.
All four positions are mounted in
one common aluminium frame
but are four individual machines
each offset to the other two
inches.
Each
Smartwinder-XL™
pos-
ition
has
a
computerised
microprocessor-based electronic
traverse for pitch, stroke length
and end dwell for level winding.
The lateral motion of the traverse
assembly is actuated by a ball
screw driven servo drive following the
encoded signal of the rotary motion
spindle RPM.
All traverse adjustment settings are
accessed through panel view touch
screen with Smartwinders™ software.
The panel view has recipe storage
for up to 32 different wire sizes and
winding patterns once they are
determined.
Precise
adjustable
rewind
tension at each position is
speed controlled through the
exclusive
IMC
dancer/tension
controller assembly with a 25:1
tension range and diameter
calculation. This
system
can
provide precise, programmable
tension throughout all operating
parameters.
Independent Machine Company
custom designs and manufactures
a complete line of web processing
machinery for a broad range of
industries for production and dev-
elopment applications.
