This month’s features are
from Italy, Israel, and Mexico.
The First film from Italy received 9 awards from the Italian
equivalent of our Academy Awards. It dares to show that
women over the age of 40 can be adventurous and reject the
ordinary. The city of Venice is the costar of this charming film.
The 2nd film takes us to Israel. There are 2 types of films, one
to entertain, and the other to entertain but also provoke
thought and argument. This is one of the second category.
The daughter of a distinguished Rabbi asks her father to
postpone her wedding so she may continue her studies, but
her real goal lies elsewhere. This particular film won the
Israeli award for drama in 2007.
If anyone remembers the television show "Laugh IN", it had a
lead called "NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT".
And that’s what will be shown for the 3rd film. Taking place in
Mexico, the movie starts in a familiar manner as what we see
on TV, the audience will vote to replace a fading star of a
popular soap opera. Hopefully you will leave with the
admiration and satisfaction for the growing Mexican film
industry.
All titles will be announced the week prior to the film. Please
mark your date books and join me in proudly showing 3
wonderful foreign films. I believe NO TISSUES NEEDED!
