This was the second year that I played
flag football. Each time I play, I learn
more.
When we get to the field, we warm up
with another player by throwing the
football. In practice, we learn plays,
throw, catch and play games. My favorite
game is “bulldog” where one player is the
bulldog and the other players try to move
from one endzone to the other without
the bulldog pulling our flags. If you are
caught, then you become a bulldog too.
We also play a game called the “gauntlet”
With this game, defenders stand on a
square and cannot move. The player with
the ball has to twist and turn as they run
by to avoid being tackled.
In games, the coaches decide if you are
offense or defense. My favorite on de-
fense is safety. You get to run the field
fast and pull flags. You can’t let the other
team get a touchdown.
On offense, I get to throw as a quarter-
back and catch as a receiver or run as a
running back. It is exciting to get the ball
in the air and race towards the endzone.
Football is fun, tiring and hard to learn.
But you get the hang of it - with enough
practice.
