ICMARC Associate Handbook August 2016

EMERGENCY MEDICAL PROCEDURES Potentially life-threatening emergency medical situations may occur at the workplace. These situations can include choking, injuries to the head, partial or complete loss of consciousness, and complaints of shortness of breath or chest pains. Emergency Situations In an emergency situation, it is important for all associates to follow these procedures. P P Call 911 immediately. P P Give the dispatcher a description of what happened and the location of the injured associate. P P Specify the location where the ambulance attendants, firefighters or police will be met. P P Do not hang up the phone unless instructed to do so by the dispatcher. P P Notify Human Resources, a supervisor, and building security immediately after contacting 911. Assist in the identification of qualified, on-site assistance personnel. Unless there is an imminent danger, do not move the associate until trained emergency medical personnel arrive. P P If the individual’s heart or breathing stops while waiting for emergency medical personnel, cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) may be initiated only if the associate is trained; otherwise, you should contact an associate who is trained in CPR. A list of associates trained in CPR can be found in ICMA‑RC’s phone directory, on the corporate intranet under the Human Resources tab, and near the automated external defibrillators (AEDs) located throughout headquarters. All associates should become familiar with the location of these AEDs. FIRST AID KITS Every facility where ICMA‑RC Associates are normally resident on site shall have at least one First Aid Kit compliant with American National Standards Institute ANSI Z308.1-2009 or more current. Non-emergency Situations In a non-emergency situation, administer first aid and contact a supervisor or Human Resources. A health room is located on the 6th floor of our headquarters offices in Human Resources. This room can be used for non-emergency situations when associates are not feeling well and for lactating mothers. When possible, associates should schedule use of the health room through Outlook or Human Resources. Lactating mothers should schedule the room through Outlook. A Quiet Room is also located on the 6th floor in the Human Resources area. This room is intended to be used as needed for relaxation, religious practices, short meditations or visualizations, or just to have some quiet time to relieve stress. Because space and availability are limited, the Quiet Room is generally used for short periods of time (approximately 15–30 minutes) and is not intended for more than one person or for lunch breaks. There should be no audible music or other noise, but headphones are acceptable. Reserve the Quiet Room through Outlook. Please contact Human Resources with any questions concerning this policy. Note: In an emergency medical situation, a supervisor or a coworker should accompany an associate who is taken to a medical facility for treatment. The supervisor or coworker should remain with the associate until a family member or other emergency contact person arrives, or for a reasonable amount of time.
