ICMARC Associate Handbook August 2016

A “child” is defined as a person under 21 years of age; a person who is 21 years of age or older who is substantially dependent on the parent by reason of physical or mental disability; or a person who is under 23 years of age and is a full-time student at an accredited college or university. A “school-related event” is an activity sponsored by either a school or an organization, such as a parent-teacher association, in which the parent’s child is involved directly either as a participant or subject, but not as a

spectator. Examples of school-related events are the following: P P A student performance such as a concert, play, or rehearsal

P P A school sports event P P An awards ceremony P P A meeting with a teacher or counselor P P Any similar type of activity

To request parental leave, you should notify your supervisor of your desire for leave to attend a school- related event at least 10 calendar days prior to the event, unless the school-related event cannot be reasonably foreseen, in which case you should inform your supervisor of the desired date for leave as soon as possible. ICMA‑RC reserves the right to deny a request for parental leave if it would disrupt ICMA‑RC’s business and make achievement of production or service delivery unusually difficult. Associates who take parental leave are entitled to retain all employment benefits or time in service accrued before and during the date of the leave. Associates in states with different parental leave requirements should consult Human Resources if they have any questions about those benefits. Also under the D.C. Parental Leave Act, District of Columbia associates are entitled to take a day of leave each year on April 16th, the District of Columbia Emancipation Day. The leave provided is unpaid unless the associate elects to use available vacation or personal leave. Associates must provide their supervisor with notice of a request for leave to celebrate District of Columbia Emancipation Day at least ten calendar days prior to the event. Leave may be denied if granting leave would disrupt ICMA-RC’s business and service delivery. VOTING LEAVE ICMA‑RC encourages you to participate in federal, state, local and primary elections. You are expected to make every effort to vote before or after the workday. If schedule conflicts are unavoidable, however, regular full-time and part-time associates may be excused without penalty and arrive at the office up to two hours late or leave two hours early in order to vote. In addition, some areas now allow early voting, including on weekends; so you might consider taking advantage of that opportunity if it is available to you. Prior to the Election Day, you must discuss your situation with your supervisor so that the necessary office coverage can be arranged. ICMA‑RC will comply with any applicable law related to time off for voting. BEREAVEMENT LEAVE Regular full-time and part-time associates can use bereavement leave for grieving or to arrange or attend a funeral or memorial services for a family member as defined under this policy.
