The following was among the business transacted : Newly admitted solicitors O n a report from the Court of Examiners it was decided to hold a formal ceremony each year for the presentation o f certificates to newly admitted solicitors. The ceremony will be held twice yearly at the ordinary general meetings. The relatives of those being admitted may attend the ceremony, and the certificates will be presented by the President.

Standard for awards at the Preliminary Examination! I t was resolved that the following standards should be adopted for awards o f medals and certificates at the Preliminary Examination from April, 1951 : Gold Medal . . Over 85% Silver Medal . . Over 75% Special Certificate . Over 70% Liability o f solicitor for agent’s charges O n a report from a Committee, the Council con­ sidered a query as to whether an Irish solicitor who instructs an English solicitor to transact business in England on behalf of a client, whose name is dis­ closed, is liable for the agent’s charges. In the particular case, the facts were that the Irish solicitor instructed the English solicitor to defend the pro­ ceedings in the English Courts on behalf of an Irish client, and sent them a cheque of £5 on account of costs. At a certain stage of the proceedings the English solicitors requested a further payment of
