C ertified teacher Sue Dickson has imparted her knowledge to students for over six decades. As a young girl, Ms. Dickson always wanted to be a teacher, so she nurtured that passion by earning a

Bachelor of Science in education from James Madison University in 1952. After obtaining her degree, she began her professional career as a teacher for Arlington Public Schools, the Merrydowns School, the Fairfax Christian School, and Mahwah Township Public Schools. As she progressed in her career, she earned positions as a consultant for the CBN TV education program and an author and consultant for Kelwyn Effective Schools Group. From 1988 to 1994 she served as president of International Learning Systems, Inc., in Chesapeake, Va., and took on a similar role with the same company in St. Petersburg, Fla., from 1994 to 2000. Ms. Dickson has utilized her knowledge and expertise to create reading and language arts programs, including “Sing, Spell, Read and Write,” which earned a Teacher’s Choice Award from Learning Magazine in 2005, and a Pearson teacher training and reading initiative for Pre-K to third grade. She was also instrumental in a project that required students to write about their state, which was illustrated and subsequently turned into storybooks. Ms. Dickson is a member of the International Literacy Association, whose North Kersey council she served as president of from 1979 to 1980, and is a past treasurer and vice president of the Society of Women Educators. She received the George Washington Teacher’s Medal from the Freedom Foundation in 1968 and has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who of American Women.
