C omputer science is a field in which intelligence is a key component of success, as it requires thinking both abstractly and concretely. While many people today use computers at work and even have them in their homes, they are likely only aware of the practicalities. Computer scientists are knowledgeable about how computers are designed, their computational functions, and how to create solutions if something fails. Laura J. Frank is one of the many professionals who possess that knowledge. Ms. Frank obtained a bachelor’s degree at the University of Vermont and went on to obtain a Master of Business Administration at Iona College. Her first job utilizing her computer science background was as an office technician manager for PHH Relocation, where she remained for 12 years. She used her years of experience

and technological savvy to obtain a position as a systems consultant at LFJ Associates and later became a project manager for Synapse Group Inc., a division of Time Inc., in 1998. During her 13 years with Synapse Group Inc., she became a Project Management Professional through the Project Management Institute. Her newfound skill set allowed her to serve as a project manager for Time Inc., the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, and Stamford Public Schools. Although Ms. Frank is retired, she has remained active. She has been an editor, served on the board of directors for a newspaper, and contributed articles to professional journals. She also participated in The Center Women at JCC Stamford's musical production called “100 Years: 100 Songs” and “Toy Story.” Currently, she does volunteer work for a program called Reading Partners and PMI and works as a substitute teacher. Ms. Frank attributes her success to staying busy; giving great advice; being a good listener; and being open, flexible, driven, focused and passionate.
