A lthough her teaching career spanned a successful 17 years, Sybil Friedenthal Roos’ drive and dedication never ceased. Dr. Friedenthal Roos has immense experience volunteering in the fine arts field. Her teaching experience began in Caddo Parish Schools, where she served as a teacher from 1968 to 1975, and ended with the Spring Branch Independent School District in 1985. Her career in volunteerism began at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, where she volunteered from 1990 to 2014. She has served as a volunteer for the Houston Grand Opera Guild since 1979 and for the Houston Symphony since 1997. Dr. Friedenthal Roos has been an active contributor to her community National Council of Jewish Women in 1958, area coordinator of the Special Olympics in Shreveport from 1974 to 1975, and a member of the board through her civic duties, which include being president of the

of directors at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. She has been honored for her service with awards from the Houston Symphony, the Moores School of Music, the Mission of Yahweh, and the Houston Grand Opera. She continues to be an active member of the American Association of University Women, serving as president of the Spring Valley chapter from 1985 to 1987; the Houston Grand Opera, serving as president from 1989 to 1991; Spring Branch University Women, serving as secretary since 2005; the Houston Symphony League, the Houston Ballet Guild, the American Needlepoint Guild, and the Woman’s Club of Houston. Dr. Friedenthal Roos holds a Bachelor of Arts in music from Centenary College, a Master of Education from Northwestern State University, and a Doctor of Education.
