P hysics professors like Dr. John Gruber teach courses pertaining to the laws of matter and energy. For more than five decades, Dr. Gruber has shared his knowledge with undergraduate and graduate students at many universities across the United States. His interest in science started while he was at the Pennsylvania Academy of Sciences in the ninth grade in 1950. With his passion for the field, he began his career as a NATO postdoctoral fellow as well as guest lecturer at Technische Universität Darmstadt from 1961 to 1962. He continued to excel in the field, earning many educational positions at universities, includingWashington State University, North Dakota State University, Portland State University, San Jose State University, and the University of Texas, where he remained until his retirement in 2013. of Rare Earth Compounds” with U.V. Valiev and G.W. Burdick and contributing articles to professional journals. He also holds numerous patents in laser science and technologies and has been involved in many scientific activities at the state level. Currently, he is involved in mentoring and advising people utilizing his experience and knowledge of the field. Dr. Gruber remains a fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education, the American Physical Society and the American Academy of Spectral Sciences, as well as a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, IEEE, the National Science Foundation, the New York Academy of Sciences, the North Dakota Academy of Science, the Oregon Academy of Science, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences, the Council of Colleges Arts and Sciences, the Optical Society of Northern California, the Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, and the International Society for Optical Engineering. His successful career is backed a Bachelor of Science fromHaverford College and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
