B iology is the study of life that raises questions about the ways in which living organisms grow, function and evolve. Smart and dedicated scientists are needed to help answer those questions and attempt to improve the lives of humans and animals through biotechnology. With over 50 years in the field of biology, Helene Hill has shown and proven why her service to the field is needed. Dr. Hill received a bachelor’s degree from Smith College in 1950 and a Ph.D. from Brandeis University in 1964. Her career began as an instructor at her alma mater, Brandeis University, where she taught for one year. Two years later, she became a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School and then a postdoctoral fellow in biophysics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Hill’s career would continue to progress, leading her to many teaching positions, including as an associate professor of biophysics

and genetics at the University of Colorado Medical School, associate professor of radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, as well as a professor of radiology at both the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Hill has done research on various topics of biology, including radiobiology of melanoma as it relates to radiation resistance and photobiology of melanoma as it relates to pigmentation. She is affiliated with many scientific organizations both nationally and internationally. Dr. Hill has also written chapters for many books, contributed articles to various scholarly journals, and received awards for her contributions to the field of biology. Her tireless efforts and service have been instrumental in helping human life flourish.
