G ifford Harry Albright is a retired architectural engineer, educator and consultant. Mr. Albright became involved in his profession because he was driven and talented, and had artistic and mathematical talents that helped him succeed in two fields. To prepare for his career, he received a Bachelor of Architecture in engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 1953 and a Master of Science from MIT in 1955. He began his career as a research projects director for the U.S. Naval Civil Engineers Corps from 1956 to 1958. From there, he went on to impart his knowledge to undergraduate

and graduate students as a professor of architectural engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. He continued to excel at the institution, acting as head of the architectural engineering department from 1962 to 1983, and earning status as professor emeritus of architectural engineering in 1991. He now serves as a building research consultant for G.H. Albright Associates, a position he has held since 1991. One of Mr. Albright’s career highlights was being the program director for the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. He has contributed to his field as the author of a technical publication titled “Planning Atomic Shelters - A Handbook” and as co-author of “An Illustrated History of Tamaqua.” Mr. Albright is an active member of the American Society for Testing and Materials, the American Concrete Institute, the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers. He is also affiliated with Ventilation and Refrigeration Engineers, the Construction Specification Institute, the Retired Faculty Staff Club at Penn State University, and the American Institute of Architects. Mr. Albright previously served as lieutenant junior grade in the United States Naval Reserve.
