K ennneth C. Althiser’s skills in geographical information systems analysis have literally put him on the map. As a GIS analyst for the arts and cultural affairs division of the city of Riverside, Calif., Mr. Althiser is responsible for consulting, conducting analyses, overseeing cartography and database design, and maintaining the database for local government applications. Specifically, he is in charge of overseeing most of the cartography and database design of local neighborhoods within Riverside. His unabating interest in mapping propelled him to the role of technical head of his team, which he has held for more than 10 years. graduate work in micropaleontology at California State University, Long Beach. Prior to working for Riverside, he strengthened his skills with a variety of roles and responsibilities. He worked as a geoprocessing technician III for San Bernardino County for 13 years and then became a senior GIS analyst for the Redlands Institute at the University of Redlands. He also served as a liaison to Riverside County for 12 years. During his involvement in the Salton Sea Database Program, a project aimed at restoring California’s largest inland body of water from 1998 to 2007, he worked with a team to establish a decision support infrastructure of data management and analysis tools. He also published the Salton Sea Atlas for the Redlands Institute in 2013 and is the author of three published articles on mapping. Mr. Althiser, a state liaison officer for the California Geographic Information System Council, looks forward to continued career growth in the coming years. Specifically, he hopes to build upon the current community’s geography and work on publishing more writing.
