MILLENNIUM

T he human brain and its infinite possibilities have fascinated scientists for hundreds of years as they’ve come to knowmore about its functions and relation to the rest of the body, and yet, new, exciting discoveries are emerging every day to provide insight into how those functions affect how we live, work and interact with those around us. As an educator and behavioral molecular neurobiologist, Dr. Jack Barchas is interested in neuroregulators —chemical substances that regulate activity in the nervous system —and their relation to behavior and stress. Currently chair of the department of psychiatry and the Barklie McKee Henry Professor of Psychiatry atWeill Cornell Medical College, he is also psychiatrist-in- chief at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/ Weill Cornell Medical Center.
