J im Cowles became a lawyer because of the admiration he has for his father, who was drafted into World War I while in the process of earning his law degree. Inspired by his father’s hard work and dedication, Mr. Cowles decided to embark on what would become a fruitful career in law. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Texas in 1958 and 1961, respectively. Shortly after, he gained admittance to the U.S. Supreme Court in Texas; the East, West, North, and South Districts of the U.S. District Court; and the Fifth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals. He ventured into the legal field as a founder and later a shareholder of Cowles & Thompson, where he has remained since 1978. Mr. Cowles has accomplished much throughout his career, including being named a True Texas Legend by the Texas State Bar and One of Texas’ 25 Greatest Lawyers, and being included in 500 Leading Lawyers in America, Top 15 Business-Defense Lawyers in Dallas/Fort Worth, Top 10 Lawyers in Texas, Top 100 Super Lawyers in
