r. Author E. Hughes grew up in the small farming town of

Business School and Academic Vice-Presi– dent. This year marked his twentieth year here as President. His goals for 1990 are the same as they were in 1970. "The objective has always been to see the univer– sity grow physically and in its quality and stature in the higher education community . . . to cre– ate an environment in– tellectually and other ways for the develop· ment of leaders which we aspire our students to become."

gave much of his time and dedication to his fraternity, Sigma Tau Al– pha, in which he served as Treasurer, Vice-Presi– dent and President. From Northern Colo– rado University, Dr. Hughes received a Mas– ter of Arts degree in Business Education. He earned his Ph.D in Busi– ness Administration at the University of Iowa. Before coming to the University of San Diego, Dr. Hughes spent ten years at Northern Ari– zona University as a professor of Account– ing, the Dean of the

Hoopston, Illinois. He attended John Grier High School where he played basketball and tennis. Aside from sports, he was the Judi– ciary Officer for the Stu– dent Body. Dr. Hughes earned an Illinois State Scholar– ship to Eastern Illinois University, where he earned a B.S. in Busi– ness Education. As an undergraduate, he was elected Vice-President of his senior class. He
