verything came from somewhere. Furniture, scan–

trons, nuts, and bolts did not Just appear from the sky above. Somebody was actually out compar– ing prices, working with vendors, and buying ev– erything seen on cam– pus. ·From copiers, clean– ing supplies, and uni– forms, to chemicals for science labs . . . every– thing. It was the Purchasing Department: Mary Grif– fith, and Nancy Olson plus one secretary and one student. They were in charge of working with 7,456 vendors through– out the year. Whenever a department needed to purchase something, it was Purchasing who did the ordering, but not the paying. Doesn't sound like fun, doing every– body's shopping, with their money? "When your done you don't feel like shopping over the weekend, because you've been doing it in here the office all week," said Mary. "People don't realize everything you do," said Nancy. "Everything you do has a different ven– dor."
