Public Safety

hroughout the year, the Public Safety Depa rt–

ment could be reached 24 hours a day. Contrary to the stereotypical belief of public safety officers being lazy and eating donuts all day, our Pub– lic Safety Department works quite hard to keep our campus safe. This is the first year that our offi– cers were considered " Campus Police. " In or– der to acquire this sta– tus, they had to go through intensive train– ing to follow the new reg– ulations of a " University Police" officer. Nancy Weber and her staff work hard in the office of Pub– lic Safety making sure that visitors are informed and find ticket free spots to park. One student tells his story, "On a late Friday night during the last se– mester, I went out to drive to the movies when my car was gone. I imme– diately contacted the campus Police and they reported it to the San Diego Police Depart– ment. Immediate action was taken to recover my car. " The Public Safety office will always be a great benefit to our cam– pus.
