For most people, alcohol used in moderation can be an enjoyable and relaxing experience. Drugs, used under a physician's direc– tion, are life-saving. Howev– er, the irresponsible use of alcohol and drugs creates major health and safety problems which can poten– tially affect us all. The Alco– hol and Drug education of– fice, directed by Sr. Annette

Schmeling, assisted by Senior Secretary Sr. Geor– gie Coonfs, Is located in the University Center. The office provides Alcohol and Drug Education activities and training programs which are conducted with student groups, staff and faculty throughout the year. Subjects that are ad– dressed. include: responsi– ble hosting, adult children of alcoholics, intervention strategies, codependency, alcohol and other drugs.

T he USD Alcala Leadership Program is made up of stu– dents identified by peers, faculty and administrators as leaders at the University of San Diego. The program is designed to bring out and develop the leadership quali– ties inherent in each individual, and addresses leadership styles, communication skills, personal and group decision making and the use of power and team build– ing. The program was designed in response to the national call for drug prevention programs.
