Tlw Univnsit} campus is a 221-acre tableland at the wcst('rn rnd of Kearny Mesa high on a hill com- manding inspiring views of the Pacific Ocean, Mission Bay_ and the Port of San Diego. The area is named Alcala Park aft('r the Spanish cit} of Alcala, scene of the labors of St. Didacus ( San Diego). The Collrgr for J\.frn, which began in 1954, confers the d('grcc-s of Bachdor of Arts and Bachelor of Business Administration. The College has ten major departments: English, Histor} , Mathematics, Philosophy, Accounting, Eco- nomics, Management. Marketing, Prc-Enginet'ring, Pre-Law. Courst·s arc also ofTercd in Biology, Chemistry, Education, Fon·ign Language , Geology, Journalism, Physical Education, Physics, Political Scirncc, Psychology, Sociology, Speech, Theology. In cooperation with Loyola University of Los Angeles and the Univn ity of Santa Clara, the College for Men joint program in Engineering. A student may spend three years at the University of San Diego in a program of general education that includes pre-engineering requirements in Math<·matics and the Sciences, and then proceed to either Loyola or Santa Clara for Engineering. He is graduated with the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of ~ngi- ncering. Tuition is $300 per semester. Each year a number of cholarships are awardrd on the basis of character, intcllt-ctual abilit} and need. ~nothcr important extracur!'icular ac t1v1ty is drama- tics. The Masquers Club, directed by an experienced faculty moderator, presents three stage shows each year and the annual Passion Play, "The Betrayal," on Palm Sunday in the College's huge open-air auditorium, the Alcala Theatre.

• For resident students, thf' dormitory costs per semes- ter vary from $150 to $225. The dormitories are sep- arate apartment units capable of housing 250 students in all. Some apartments accommodate four students, others six. Each apartment has two large bedrooms, a very large studv room,· full -size kitchen, breakfast nook, bathroom (som~ have two), .ample closets, extra-large patio-sundeck. Th~ new ~r~s & Science Building has a large, fully equipped dmmg room, known as the Lark Cafeteria which includes entertainment facilities for students from th~ College for Men and the College for Women. Board per sPmester is $250. •

The general objective of the College for Men is the formation of the complete man; specifically, the de- velopment of the intellectual and moral virtues which secure the foundation of a happy personal life and responsible citi- zenship. Philosophy, Science and the Arts are integrated into a harmonious whole which offers the student the heritage of the past and the achievement of the present as incentives and guides for the future. The College for Men is owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego under the lead- t'rship of Bishop Charles F. Ruddy, S.T.D., Ph.D., LL.D., Bishop of San Diego and founder of the University. Though a Catholic institution, the College welcomes students of all religions. Theology courses are required of Catholic students only. The present ratio of Catholic to non-Catholic students is 3 to 1. ' The College faculty consists of both priests and laymen. They are well-qualified men and able teachers, men dedicated to the principles of Christian education and highPr learning. • •

• Dominating the C3!!1pus is the blue-domed Immaculata Chapel, one of tlie largest Catholic churches in the West. The chapel is of the same Spanish Renaissance archi- tecture as all the other campus buildings. The tower is 140 feet high, topped by a large golden cross. For the students' convenience, Mass is offered daily in the Immaculata at noon. The College chaplain is available during the school day for confession or spiritual direction. • ' •The Library of the College for Men is a magnificent three-story building that has a capacity of 250,000 volumes. Though the College is only six years old, a nucleus of 30,000 volumes has already been gathered. This basic collection is constantly being expanded under the direction of a staff of trained professional librarians. Athletics, while taking second place to academics, are by no means neglected at the College for Men. All students except veterans are required to take courses in _Physical Ed~cation. Fu1:thermore, the College participates m mtercolleg1ate competition in football, basketball, bast'ball, Rugby and golf. A football stadium athletic fieldhouse and swimming pool are now undPr con;truction on campus. •

The College has a Placement Bureau which aids studel')ts in gt'tting part-time work.

Students from the College for Women mix with stu- dents from the College for Men in campus social life. Campus dancC's and socials arc arranged by the Student Councils of the two Colleges.
