EARTHING + LIGHTNING PROTECTION

ROUND UP

Going up… surge protection for lifts Modern day lifts fulfil several sophisticated functions which can only be fulfilled by means of highly sensitive electronic systems. Although lift manufacturers take vari- ous measures to reduce bulk current injection into the lift cabling and technology to an acceptable level – be it with shielded metallic distribution boards or the type of cable routing or cables used – these measures cannot prevent conducted transients from damaging the lift. DEHNguard is a complete prewired unit that consists of a base part and plug-in protection modules. It has a high discharge capacity due to its heavy-duty zinc oxide varistors or spark gaps, and offers reassuring reliability due to its ‘thermo dynamic control’ SPDmonitoring device. This modular surge arrester is ideal for use inTTTN-C andTN-S systems. The big advantage of theTT earthing system is that it is clear of high and low frequency noises that come through the neutral wire from connected equipment.TT has always been preferable for special applications like telecommunication sites that benefit from the interference-free earthing. Also,TT does not have the risk of a broken neutral. DEHN 's BLITZDUCTOR XT family offers optimal protection of two single and the cable shield (BSP and BXT).These space-saving combined lightning current and surge arrester modules

Device protection without back-up fuses The new type 3 surge protection Plugtrab PLT-SEC from Phoenix Contact features a newly developed disconnect device. The devices provide increased

safety in the case of electrical and thermal overload, regard- less of the backup fuse installed. Thanks to the Safe Energy Con- trol technology, the protective devices are particularly durable. The protected end devices are subject to less strain than in standard installations. Owing to the integrated,

surge-current-proof fuses, remote installations do not require any external protective device backup fuses. The surge protective devices are used in applications with load currents of up to 26 A.They are suitable for ac and dc applications. Recurring inspections of the protective devices are carried out quickly and easily with the Checkmaster 2 test device. The easy-to-read status indicator and the floating remote indication contact keep you in- formed about the status of the product at all times. Enquiries:Tony Rayner. Email tonyr@phoenixcontact.co.za

offer the LifeCheck feature, which detects thermal or electrical overload, at which time the arrester has to be replaced. This status is indicated by the DEHNrecord reader. A four-pole version, for universal use with all types of BSP and BXT/ BXTU protection modules, is also available, which offers no signal interruption if the protection module is removed. The BLITZDUCTOR XT is for use in the lightning protection zone concept at the boundaries from 0 A-2 and higher.

Surge Protection Reinvented

Safe Energy Control technology is the basis for durable and powerful lightning and surge protection. The revolutionary spark gap safely prevents any line follow current. This protects your system, including fuses and arresters. For most applications, this means that a separate arrester backup fuse is no longer needed. The compact, plug-in arresters make installation easy. Keep your systems failsafe
