Section 4. Effective date; duration. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon enactment by the municipal legislative body unless otherwise provided and shall remain in effect until it is amended or repealed. Section 5. Penalties. This ordinance shall be enforced by the municipal officers or their designee. Violations of this ordinance shall be subject to the enforcement and penalty provisions of 30-AM.R.S.A. ยง 4452. To see if the Town will vote to adopt an ordinance setting term limits for the Board of Selectmen, as below: Ordinance for Establishing Term Limits for Members of the Board of Selectmen Town of New Gloucester, Maine Section 1. Authority. This ordinance is enacted pursuant to Title 30-A, M.R.S.A., sections 3001 and 3002. Section 2. Purpose. The number of consecutive terms of office are limited for members of the NewGloucester Board of Selectmen, as provided herein. Section 3. Applicability. The provisions of this ordinance shall apply to current members retroactively, as well as to future members, of the New Gloucester Board of Selectmen. Section 4. Term Limits. Selectmen shall serve no more than three (3) consecutive three (3) year full terms. Service as an elected member of the board to fill a vacant position shall not count toward the maximum period of consecutive service stated in the preceding sentence. After an absence of three (3) years or more from that office, a citizen may run for and hold the office of selectmen again. Section 5. Severability. Any section or provision of this ordinance found to be invalid shall not affect the validity of the remaining provision of the ordinance. Section 6. Amendments. This ordinance may be amended by a majority vote at any legal Town Meeting when such amendment is published in the warrant calling for the meeting.
