This drawing is preliminary composition for one of the fifteen lithographs for a deluxe edition of Arthur Rimabud’s series of forty-two poems called Les Illuminations . Published by Louis Grosclaude, the book was printed in an edition of 375 copies in 1949 . The Parade lithograph in this edition of Les Illuminations is one of three illustra tions that are black-and-white only.
