IAAO Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration

The IAAO Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration is the highest pro- fessional honor a jurisdiction can obtain. The Certificate recognizes and requires a high level of appraisal and assessment proficiency and teamwork throughout the entire office. Candidates will learn about their organization’s strengths and weak- nesses and further develop the strong office teamwork and group achievement that is required to complete the rigorous requirements.

Of the 20 jurisdictions that have achieved the Certificate of Excellence 10 are from the state of Florida and members of the FCIAAO.

IAAO Professional Designees

The FCIAAO supports our members who are seeking professional designations through the IAAO and have created an incentive program for those who complete the journey. Tony Hodge worked tirelessly promoting IAAO education and encouraging individuals to pursue an IAAO professional designation. In recognition of his efforts, the FCIAAO Executive Board created the Tony Hodge Award to recognize FCIAAO members who earn their IAAO Professional Designation. The award is a $250 check and is generally presented at FCIAAO’s Annual Conference.

IAAO Committees

Many members of the Florida Chapter of IAAO are also members on IAAO Committees. The FCIAAO was recently well represented at the first Kansas City IAAO Leadership Days held the week of February 8th, 2013.

The chairman of each committee diligently prepares in advance a meeting agenda and an IAAO staff member is assigned to each committee. Minutes are taken and later sub- mitted for a report to the IAAO Board of Directors.

Another objective of Leadership Days is to allow the coordi- nation of efforts between committees allowing a better understanding of each group’s goals. Committee appointments are made annually by the current IAAO President and ap- proved by the Board of Directors. The second Leadership Days will be held the first week of November to follow up on committee goals and to assess the outcome of IAAO’s International Conference on Assessment Administration.

2012 Education Week

In an effort to better serve our members and stay true to our mission statement, we created Education Week. We wanted to make sure our Tangible Personal Property professionals had a time to meet that was more conducive to their schedules and to in- sure our members had additional opportunities to attend much needed IAAO courses. After a poll of the jurisdictions, it was found that IAAO Course 102 and 300 were needed. We had 30 attendees for Course 102, 26 attendees for Course 300 and 71 attendees for the TPP seminar. The following pages contain the presentations that were presented at the TPP seminar.

2013 Legal Seminar

At our Annual Conference we also like to host a one or two day educational semi- nar on a current hot topic issue. For 2013 we have decided to tackle those pesky “dirty deeds”. The Florida Chapter is privileged to have secured two experts in the field, attorneys Scott Krasny and Cliff Rhoades who will address some of the issues that arise while working deeds. In order for the attendees to get the most out of the seminar, we asked that they submit specific deed issues they’re working with to the experts ahead of time, to

insure the answers provided were as specific as possible. To date, pre-registration activity has been very brisk.

2013 Annual Conference

We have a very exciting Annual Conference planned for this year in beautiful and sunny Sarasota, Florida. The first day of our Annual Conference we have a Gen- eral Session with information for all attendees followed by a Welcome Reception sponsored by one of our vendors. The second day is specialization day where our members can attend presentations from the Real Estate Track, Exemptions Track or the IT/GIS Track. We cap off the second day with our dinner Banquet and Annual Business Meeting. The third, and final day, of the conference we have Networking Breakfast followed by legislative and legal update presentations. All in all, it is a very busy three days full of education, networking and fun. As of the middle of April we already have 186 attendees registered.

This year the FCIAAO updated our Newsletter format by using new FlippingBook software. The new format delivers a clean modern design that allows users to zoom, search for text and save as a normal PDF document. The software auto- matically detects the readers operating system and will work on iPads, iPhones, Android devices as well as PC and Mac computers. So no matter their platform, our membership is never out of touch.

FCIAAO Board Meetings & Minutes

Since the FCIAAO Board is comprised of members from jurisdictions from the north, middle, south, east and west of Florida we have come up with many different ways to meet to get our business done. We physically meet at our annual conference and seminars, and also schedule a yearly summer retreat where we can meet over the weekend generally at a hotel we are scouting for an upcoming conference. This weekend gives us the opportunity to get a lot of work done and really get to know our fellow board members. For those times in-between we meet virtually via our video conferencing software Megameeting. It’s a great way to share our thoughts, make sure we’re on the right track and stay engaged with fellow board members. Plus it saves on travel expense which is always a good thing! What’s Cooking

FCIAAO Central Sales Repository In times of slim sales we often found ourselves saying ‘it sure would be nice to have a central sales repository’ so we have decided to build one. Still in the planning stages, the central repository would help many of our smaller jurisdictions, especially with specialty type properties.

FCIAAO Forms and Documents Repository

We are working on putting together a repository of all of the various forms and documents that our offices use. This would be a place to go for ideas when looking to update or improve forms or documents that currently just don’t seem to get the job done. There is no use in recreating the wheel. Usually if you have a problem in your office, odds are another office has had the same problem and created a form to address it. Now FCIAAO members will have a place to peruse these creative solu- tions. All offices are invited to send in copies of forms or documents they are par- ticularly proud of.

Historical Docs Project Florida Chapter IAAO historical documents from the year the organization was established in 1987 through 2011 were reviewed, scanned and placed on a jump drive for easy access and storage. The documents included min- utes, newsletters, conference agenda's, financials, and other historical data. Storage of the archival information had been an issue in past years as the number of boxes of hard copies continued to multiply. Though they were labeled in an organized manner, it was still difficult to find specific entries. Not only was it inconvenient for the data to be passed down to the next Secretary as the leadership changed, but also there was great concern that

the archived information might be lost while in storage or moved. Some of the docu- ments were already fading and crumbling. When the project began in 2011, the boxes filled the back of a large SUV and were subsequently placed on a jump drive totaling 1.8 GB. It is now archived in a safe and convenient manner.
