First Annual

B I G D A T A C H A L L E N G E

Dignity Health Insights (DHI) and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Orfalea College  of Business are collaboraƟng to   create the first annual “ Big Data            Challenge ”.  As a project approved through the MS degree program in Busi‐ ness AnalyƟcs at Cal Poly, several students — using the power of Big Data  — will compete to solve one or more business quesƟons posed by DHI .   As a guide to those who are submiƫng business ideas/quesƟons, please  ensure your quesƟons are focused on strategic objecƟves of the DHI– EDW.   SoluƟons and insights gained from the best and brightest from Cal Poly will  be applied to paƟent and/or operaƟonal improvement. We will uƟlize  the  technology, people and processes already in place through the EDW pro‐ gram including the Dept. of Medical InformaƟcs and the exisƟng big data IT  SoluƟon Architecture.  “Hiding within those mounds of data is knowledge that could change the life of a patient, or change the world.” Atul Butte, MD, PhD
