IIW 2018 Annual Report

INFLUENCING IIW Journal

In 2018, the IIW flagship journal Welding in the World (WiW) published six issues that contained 120 papers and over 1,300 pages of fundamental and applied research associated with materials joining and allied technologies. Over 420 papers were submitted to WiW in 2018. Of the submitted papers, 103 were recommended by IIW Working Units and some 320 papers were submitted via open submission. Approximately 20% of the open submission papers were appro- ved by the Editorial Board and forwarded into the peer review system. In 2018, the role of the Editorial Board was great- ly expanded to assist with the pre-screening of open submission papers and to streamline the peer review process. Currently, there are over 35 members of the Editorial Board from Member Countries around the world. All the indicators of the journal’s quality and per- formance continued to increase significantly in 2018. The Impact Factor now stands at 1.206 Welding in the World Editors Prof. Dr-Eng. John C. Lippold (United States) Prof. Dr-Ing. Thomas Böllinghaus (Germany) Prof. Dr-Eng. Ian Richardson (Netherlands)

and is expected to increase to around 1.4. Also in 2018, there were 83,649 paper downloads, an increase of 13% from 2017. The Editors wish to thank all who contribute to the quality of the journal including au- thors, Working Unit chairs and co-chairs, principal reviewers and members of the review panel, the Edito- rial Board members, the IIW managing editor and staff, and the support staff at Springer. The great growth in the number of papers submitted to WiW over the last four years has required tremendous effort by both the peer review panel and production staff.

The tremendous growth in the number of papers submitted to Welding in the World over the last three years has required tremendous effort by both the peer review panel and production staff. The Editors are planning major changes to the

peer review system in 2018 that will further ex- pand the Editorial Board to include more subject area experts in key areas. Through these efforts we look forward to the continued growth and re- cognition of our journal.
