Types of radiation used in skin XRT

1. X-rays (external beam radiotherapy)

- Grenz (Bucky) rays 10-30 kV, half depth at 0.5 mm and absorbed at 2 mm depth

Grenz rays 10-20kV Contact therapy 40-50 kV

- low-energy photons

kV = superficial 50-150 kV (<5 mm depth) orthovoltage 150-300 kV (5-10 mm)

- MV photons 4-25 MV

2. Particte radiation (external beam radiotherapy)

- electrons 4-15 MeV - protons <=250MeV

3. Gamma emitters (brachytherapy)

- Ir-192 0.38 MeV
