Breakout Sessions (10:15 am – 4:00 pm with lunch break from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm)

A. FP Sampling Plan Working Group – David Gombas, United Fresh Produce Association & Chair, WG on Sampling Plan for FP (Estate 2) The WG on FP Sampling has developed an outline of a paper to build on the Microbiological Testing of Fresh Produce white paper by providing specific recommendations regarding the number of test samples to collect and the best practices for collecting test samples to detect Salmonella from “pre-harvest” fields of romaine lettuce. B. Discussion of Future Topics/Areas of Work for ISPAM/FP – Erin Crowley, Q Laboratories, Inc. & Chair, ISPAM Currently, the WG on Sampling Plan is working on a guideline for field sampling of romaine lettuce for detection of Salmonella . And, the WG on the development of an SMPR for the detection of salmonella in leafy greens has completed its work. ISO TC 34/SC 9 WG 3 is working on an international standard for on-site method verification. Crowley will lead a discussion of potential new topics and areas of interest for ISPAM. i. On-site method verification guidelines. ii. Follow-up on harmonization of BAM and ISO Salmonella methods. iii. Harmonization of other pathogen detection methods. iv. Development of standard inclusivity/exclusivity panels for Salmonella, Listeria, E coli, STEC detection methods. v. What other analytes/matrices should the FP group tackle next. vi. Other topics of interest to ISPAM and the FP industry. The WG will be reviewing and revising the first Draft of the paper.
