HOT TOPICS

Innovative Workforce Incentive Program The Ohio Department of Education and Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation have announced a list of industry-recognized credentials that provides $34 million in funding opportunities to districts under the new Innovative Workforce Incentive Program. Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio General Assembly developed the program to create more opportunities for students to earn in-demand, industry-recognized credentials. The program includes $9 million in Ohio’s two-year budget for grants to encourage the startup of additional credential programs. Eligible applicants include city, local, and exempted village school districts, community schools, STEM schools, educational service centers and joint vocational school districts. Schools can begin applying for a share of the funding on Dec. 19 through the state’s Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP) grant application process. Schools also are eligible to receive a share of $25 million from the state budget to establish credential programs that prepare students for careers in priority industry sectors. Under this program, schools can receive $1,250 for each qualifying credential earned by a student. More information about the Innovative Workforce Incentive Program, including the qualifying industry-recognized credentials, is available here . Find general information on high school industry-recognized credentials here . Principal Value Added Data Now Available Superintendents and their designees now can access principal Value-Added data. Districts that are piloting OTES 2.0 should use the Ohio Evaluation System (OhioES) , while those that are not piloting should continue to use the electronic Teacher and Principal Evaluation System (eTPES) . Refer to the Business Rules for Assigning Principal Value-Added Scores for instructions on assigning the appropriate Value-Added scores or other student growth measures for building principals.

Training Sessions Coming in January to Connect Data to Improvement Regional data leads are partnering with the Ohio Department of Education to host five regional training sessions called Journey to Equity: Connecting Achievement and Progress Data . The target audience is district and building leaders. Attendees will learn how to use data to make long-term instructional improvements to ensure equity for all students. The sessions will highlight strategies and tools for improving achievement and progress. To find session dates and locations and to register, go to STARS through the OH|ID portal and use keywords achievement , growth or progress . Watch for additional meetings being planned by regional data leads in the coming months. Topics will focus on using data for specific facets of instructional improvement.
