• Complications with a weak volume dependence • Use high-dose end of the DVH • D max , D 05 • E.g. spinal cord • Complications with strong volume dependence • mean dose • other features (e.g. V20), from clinical studies • E.g. lung • Intermediate volume dependence • Other features (V D = % volume getting > dose D) • E.g. rectum

• Remember spatial aspects not included in DVH but may matter: • Circumferential irradiation of oesophagus • Hotspots in un-contoured areas
